Roberta Buiani
Roberta Buiani (https://www.atomarborea.net/) is assistant professor and coordinator of the NewONE program at New College (University of Toronto); artistic director of the ArtSci Salon at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Toronto); and co-director of SLOLab (with Jane Tingley) at York University. Being in Relation is their latest a research-creation project funded through a SSHRC insight grant (the Canadian federal funding agency that supports and promotes research and training in the humanities and social sciences fields). The project explores multisensory experiences and forms of storytelling leading to more inclusive, anti-extractivist, and sustainable approaches to dominant relationships between human and non-human/technological actors. Buiani’s latest book is titled Viral Behaviors (Bloomsbury, 2024), an exploration of the complicated relationships between culture and the viral through the perspectives of science, art and technology.
Pier Luigi Capucci
Pier Luigi Capucci (https://capucci.org) is a researcher in the relationships among art, science, technology and culture, in the media studies, and is a consultant of the European Commission on humanities and technology. He carries out an intense cultural activity and is invited to give lectures worldwide. He has extensively and internationally published in books, magazines and conference papers, organized exhibitions and managed International projects, his texts (more than 400) have been published in many languages. He has been the Director of Studies of the Planetary Collegium M-Node PhD Program (University of Plymouth), and a teacher in many institutions. He is the founder and Director of Noema, an International journal and network of projects on culture, art, science and technology which this year celebrates 25 years of activity. He is the founder and curator of the research project “art*science – Art & Climate Change”, and of the “Dialogues Across the Seas” project. He is in the Scientific Committee of AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d’Art/International Association of Art Critics, Paris), Italian section.
Mahutoa ‘Pasha’ Clothier
Mahutoa ‘Pasha’ Clothier (https://pashaclothier.com/) has forty-one generations of tūpuna (ancestors) from Tahiti, Hitiaurevareva (colonised as Pitcairn) and Te Wai Pounamu, the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. They are part of the Moana diaspora. An artist-writer, educator, curator, and cultural events director, their work is deeply rooted in Moana or Polynesian heritage and has been presented in twenty-two countries. Mahutoa co-founded SCANZ with cultural partners Te Matahiapo in 2006. Occurring every two years until 2018, the event focused on cultural bridging, art-science and the environment. Under the guidance of Dr. Te Huirangi Waikerepuru, Maata Wharehoka, Kawaihululani and Tihoti, Pasha undertook a journey to the sacred navigator marae of Taputapuātea Ra’iātea near Tahiti in 2023. An etched and bound kōhatu (river stone) was placed on the marae, and Tihoti guided Mahutoa in selecting a kōhatu from the island, to be taken to Aotearoa New Zealand. Between 2020 and 2023, they were the recipient of a Vice Chancellor Scholarship, allowing three and a half years of full-time Ph.D. research. Their first book, Ocean Diffraction: Indigenous Practices, Quantum Theory, Electronic Art and the Anthropocene, is due to be published late in 2025.
Nina Czegledy
Nina Czegledy (https://www.ninaczegledy.net/), artist, independent curator, researcher, educator, works internationally at the intersection of art, science and technology projects. Paradigm shifts in the arts, science, educational issues and the influence of contemporary technologies inform her collaborations. Recent curatorial projects have opened up fresh emphasis on the harnessing of light and water in myriad ways, embodied sensing, trans-generational issues, as well as non-alphabetical hidden communication especially in indigenous populations. Nina has exhibited and published widely, won awards for her artworks and has initiated, lead and participated in workshops, forums and festivals worldwide. She is Senior Fellow at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (Budapest), Honorary Fellow at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (Budapest), independent media artist, International curator, member of the Governing Board of Leonardo/ISAST, Board member of Noema Scientific Committee (Italy), co-chair of Leonardo LASER International network and Leonardo LASERS in Montreal and in Toronto. She is member of the International Association of Art Critics AICA Canada, International Research Fellow at Intercreate Org (New Zealand), member of Substantial Motion Research Network, and research collaborator of Hexagram International Network for Research Creation.
Elena Giulia Rossi
Elena Giulia Rossi (https://abaroma.it/docenti/prof-ssa-elena-giulia-rossi/) lives and works in Rome as an independent researcher, editorial director of Arshake.com, and Professor at the Rome Fine Arts Academy of Theories of Multimedia Art. Her research and experience have been addressing contemporary art and its relation with technology, oscillating between tradition and modernity, and under a socio-anthropological perspective. She has been collaborating with different galleries and institutions in Italy and abroad, such as the MAXXI Museum (2003-2012), P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (New York 2001); The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago (2002); the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (2002), and Studio Stefania Miscetti (Rome 2003- 2004). She has been invited to give lectures and presentations at seminars, conferences and symposia in Italy and abroad. She writes regularly for catalogues and magazines. She is the author of Archeonet (Lalli: Siena, 2003), and of Mind the Gap. La vita tra bioarte, arte ecologica e post internet (postmedia.books: Milan, 2020).
